Google Inc has acquired social networking search company Aardvark.

No purchase price was disclosed, but Internet products blog TechCrunch reported that the deal was for $50 million, citing an inside source.

Unlike a traditional search engine, Aardvark takes multiword queries and routes them to the user's friends and social networking contacts, and to their contacts as well, for answers. The company was founded by two former Google executives, Max Ventilla and Nathan Stroll.

The deal is Google's second recent foray into social media. Last week the company released Google Buzz, a social networking platform for Gmail that allows users to share messages, videos, photos and links.
